This is highjacking a thread 101...

Buster, you know anyone else that might wanna play FF this year? I have got 7 people, would really like 10... but could settle for 8. So we need at least 1 more, could use 3 more. Didn't know if your brother was into football, or anyone else you might know. Let me know.

my pleasure. speech recognition really is an exciting area of technology. i've been interested in it for while. it's just a matter of time til this stuff becomes an everyday thing... if we don't blow each other up haha.

actually after doing a little research i discovered that i didnt need to go pay several hundreds of dollars for 3rd party VRE (voice recognition engine) because M$ has built one into Windows XP. the dictation and command modes work on most Windows apps, although special features are built into M$ Office and other apps.

the main thing i discovered that you need, besides a fast computer (which everyone has nowadays even if u've got a $400 emachine) is a high quality "active" microphone. just because the mic says "great for speech recognition" on the label doesn't mean it's worth a flip. i bought a $69 USB mic/headset. supposedly the mic makes the big difference. and supposedly a USB mic is going to be exactly what you are looking for (if not a USB mic, then one that requires batteries is a good give away to the quality also!)

a couple of good resources:

Just had to do that, everybody sounded anxious.

Glad to see that you are using voice recognition, you said that you wanted to.
