PHP for GUI’s on the web

well i’ve let my last poll run longer than the others and didn’t get a real strong response… i guess it goes to show that several of my visitors aren’t developers… or aren’t developers who like to share their opinions. but, i did get a decent response and a broad ranging one also.

i’m really not surprised to see that PHP was the favorite scripting language for creating web gui’s. it’s free and more importantly it’s primary platform (linux) is free and, as i understand it, still the most popular OS used in the web server market today.

if you haven’t seen the results here they are:

Local Weather on My Blog

i noticed a while back that James Cross had a Weather Channel box on his blog with local weather info. he took it off… but casey must have taken notice too because he’s got a weather box too… i decided to add one myself, however i went with the weatherunderground.com box; the weather channel ones just didn’t look good on my dark blog.

Web Design & Website Hosting in Austin (Search Engine Optimization)

i’ve got more good search engine optimization results to share. since i started working with SiteStreet in Austin, Texas i’ve been improving our search engine rankings. after a short 2 months we’ve done some big moving and shaking. for some very competitive and valuable search keywords we’ve gathered several 1st page listings, top 2 & 3 listings…. and my favorite of all… a few #1 listings.

i hope your seo is going good too… please share any success stories you have! if you need some help with search engine optimization let me know!

Movies Available on DVD This Week

for anyone interested i added a page to my site with a listing of movies on DVD available for rent (or purchase).

UPDATE: Sorry, but I removed the page I once had listing New DVD Releases. However, after monitoring my stats I noticed that a lot of people are visiting this blog and trying to visit that page… so fyi, the feed that I used to pull an updated listing of new dvds available every week came from Yahoo >> http://rss.movies.yahoo.com/dvd/newthisweek.xml

Website Colors

have you seen the new little site i put together? it’s a tool that will help you pick out a 6 color palette (for website design). i fixed up an existing script with some improvements. you can put in hex values, rgb values or just use the scroll bars to find a primary (foundation) color and then you will see a nice 6 color palette generated.

i’m not a very colorific person… that’s why i figured it would be a great tool for others like me. so, enjoy

i added a link on my freeware page but you can go straight to the site >> website colors

Google Adsense EFT

for those of you who have Adsense accounts and are wondering if the EFT is a good choice… my opinion is a very strong YES.

Google used some terminology which made it sound like there might be problems with the transactions and so a lot of people were weary of signing up for the service. i too was a little hesitant… but i figured G was just covering themselves in case something did go wrong. seems to me their testing was thorough enough… as i got my direct deposits 2 days ago!! no more sending checks to the bank and waiting for them in the mail 🙂

so if you have an Adsense account i’d say… go for it!

if you don’t have an Adsense account or don’t have any idea what i’m talking about… check it out… it’s the coolest way to make a little extra money from your website(s) >> Google Adsense

Download.com goes back to free listings!

thank goodness, Download.com (one of my very favorite sites on the web) is allowing FREE LISTINGS!!!

this is a very good thing for users of download.com. i remember a couple of years ago when they went to ‘paid’ listings…. a lot of developers of FREEWARE were irk’ed and why not… how can you pay to list something that is FREE??? well after a couple of years it looks like CNET (owners of Download.com) have realized that their content is lacking without all that great freeware.

great timing too… cause my latest freeware project will be out and about in days 🙂

i also just submitted my Gmail for Windows… i know i know its kinda late in the game for such a simple utility… but i keep getting downloads and good feedback for it, so maybe there are still people who can use it and prefer it to Google’s util.

James Cross: icon maker & icon making hater

James has been enjoying the fun of helping me out with icons for our next freeware project… he’s got to experience first hand the pain of trying to make icons that look the way u want them to look. he’s promised a very enlightening post on his blog once we’ve completed the project and released it.

i can’t wait til we have the time to release it… i think many people are gonna like it!

coming round the corner…
